Model-sensitive sequential optimal designs

چکیده
The increasing number of experimenters using computer-generated experimental designs creates an increasing need to have design procedures that are less sensitive to model misspecification. To address this problem, the notion of empirical models that have both important and potential terms is used. A two-stage design strategy for planning experiments in the face of model uncertainty is proposed. The advantage of this procedure resides in the rearrangement of active potential terms at the end of the first stage using marginal posterior probabilities of different candidate models. The two-stage procedure has better estimation efficiency than its one-stage alternatives available from the literature. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Adaptive Designs for Delayed Response Models
Adaptive designs are effective mechanisms for flexibly allocating experimental resources. In clinical trials particularly, such designs allow researchers to balance short and long term goals of improving patient well being. This tradeoff often takes the form of trying to minimize patient losses during the experiment while simultaneously gathering sufficient information to support decisions abou...
متن کاملDesign techniques for stated preference methods in health economics.
This paper discusses different design techniques for stated preference surveys in health economic applications. In particular, we focus on different design techniques, i.e. how to combine the attribute levels into alternatives and choice sets, for choice experiments. Design is a vital issue in choice experiments since the combination of alternatives in the choice sets will determine the degree ...
متن کاملSecond Order Optimality of Sequential Designs with Application in Software Reliability Estimation
We propose three efficient sequential designs in the software reliability estimation. The fully sequential design the multistage sequential design and the accelerated sequential design. These designs make allocation decisions dynamically throughout the testing process. We then refine these estimated reliabilities in an iterative manner as we sample. Monte Carlo simulation seems to indicate that...
متن کاملA D-Optimal Design for Estimation of Parameters of an Exponential-Linear Growth Curve of Nanostructures
We consider the problem of determining an optimal experimental design for estimation of parameters of a class of complex curves characterizing nanowire growth that is partially exponential and partially linear. Locally D-optimal designs for some of the models belonging to this class are obtained by using a geometric approach. Further, a Bayesian sequential algorithm is proposed for obtaining D-...
متن کاملOptimal Weighted Bayesian Design Applied to Dose-response-curve Analysis
Designs for nonlinear regression models depend on some prior information about the unknown parameters. There are three primary methods for accounting for this: The locally optimal designs, globally optimal Bayesian designs, and sequential procedures. If prior knowledge about the parameters is available from former experiments, Bayesian designs integrate this information most eeciently. If the e...
